Wastewater Plant Operator

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Makes decisions and changes to the plant configuration and system processes to ensure safe, efficient and uninterrupted operations; Starts, operates and stops manually controlled equipment, including chemical pumps, transfer pumps, clarifier drives, sand filters, and air blowers; Monitors plant conditions for proper chemical feeds; Tests samples as scheduled from aeration tanks in graduated cylinders and records the amount of sediment deposited; Calculates items such as flows, pH and temperatures Maintains daily logs for each unit; Removes floating debris from aeration basin troughs and dumps them into plastic bags; Regulates air into the aeration basins and into the sludge holding tank; Periodically checks automatic controlled equipment to evaluate and determine proper operation, adjusts and takes corrective action as required; Checks operation and lubrication of all equipment; Performs operator level maintenance, to include minor leak repair, component replacement and safety testing, etc.; Maintains the plant in a clean and orderly manner; Performs other related duties as assigned. The work performed requires walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, sitting, crouching, climbing ladders, stairs and steps. Must have good eyesight and hearing. Must also be able to lift weights of up to fifty pounds. Moderate effort is required to operate valves and controls, and to reposition heavy hoses and pumps as necessary. When performing repairs or making installations or performing preventive maintenance, the employee is required to use both hands above the head as well as below the shoulders. The employee is required to enter confined spaces when cleaning and inspecting clarifiers, contact tanks, aeration tanks and sand filters and shall follow all prescribed safety practices including the use of proper safety equipment. The employee is exposed to contact with sewage, high voltage, and heavy-duty equipment. Is required to work around moving machinery. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from accidents while working around tanks, machinery and equipment. The employee works generally outdoors, subject to all prevailing weather conditions. Is exposed to adverse weather conditions, dangers with chemicals and open tanks. The Selective Placement Factors for this position are:
New Jersey State Public Wastewater Treatment System S-2, or higher, Operator's License New Jersey State Wastewater C-1, or higher, Collections License Documentation of licensure will be required upon interview Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
