Safety Technician

The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and clerical responsibilities; Participating in the Environment of Care (EOC), Occupation Safety, Construction Safety and Life Safety Committees, as well as the Accident Review Board; Collecting quarterly reports from members and recording minutes from meetings; Maintaining records of all area training; Researching new safety devices and equipment; and Managing the Medical Center ECOMP reporting program for employee injuries. In operation 24-hours a day for protection of patients, visitors, and personnel, this program must be consistent with established safety codes and practices, meet compliance requirements of the National Fire Protection 1ssociation (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Joint Commission (JC) and other applicable standards. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-6) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
(l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker. OR, Education:
One full year of graduate education directly related to the work of the position. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work is both sedentary and, at times, physically challenging. Some physical effort, such as walking, bending, or sitting, or occasionally carrying items (such as mail, records, etc.) of more than 30 pounds, may be required. Working Conditions:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. It may also include fieldwork and off-premises tasks. At times, may be subject to inclement weather/conditions, or exposures to hazardous conditions such as mechanical hazards ranging from power tools to operating machinery and chemical and biological hazards while performing laboratory and maintenance shop survey. Must adhere to safety and environmental protection policies and procedures and techniques. Consistently uses proper body mechanics, appropriate lifting equipment and personal protective equipment to prevent injury to self and/or patient on a daily basis. Anticipates potential safety hazards, takes action to promote a safe and therapeutic environment. May be required to work long and irregular hours during the course of emergency response or to accomplish mandated inspection and training requirements. The work environment involves frequent exposure to moderate risk situations, some discomforts, unpleasant working conditions, and adverse weather conditions, hot, cold, dry and wet. Safety or security precautions sometimes are necessary, and the employee may have to use appropriate clothing or gear. This position may require travel in order to provide coverage at another campus. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
