Dental Laboratory Technician

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Carries forward all the procedures involved in the fabrication of removable prostheses; Fabricate complicated appliances used in the treatment of various abnormalities; Boxes and pours models from impressions provided by the staff dentists; Fabricates impression trays and bite registration appliances, mounts casts in accordance with jaw relationship records formed by the dentists, selects appropriate stock denture teeth or fabricates special acrylic teeth as the case demands arranges these teeth in accordance with the cosmetic and biological requirements of each case, following the dentist's prescription; Carves denture base in wax, invests, packs and processes the case, de-flasks the denture, rearticulates for post-processing adjustments, perfects final form of the denture and polishes; Repairs, relines, and rebases for existing dentures are also routinely performed; Forms by hand (in wrought wire cases) clasps, connectors, occlusal rests, etc., and solders these components in a complete framework; Repairs of existing dentures are also performed; Constructs routine full and partial dentures, dental splints and obturators, model work for fixed prostheses, and other laboratory products to support the treatment needs of staff dentists; Pours primary and final impressions, fabricates custom trays, fabricates bite rims, sets teeth for trial dentures/partials, polishes prosthesis following adjustment, fabricates night guards, fabricates provisional prostheses, etc.; Provides education, training, and instruction to other clinic personnel and, Performs other related duties as assigned. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Dental Laboratory Technician GS-8. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials; use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment; use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers; and construction of dental prosthetic appliances. Such assignments require a thorough knowledge of oral anatomy, tooth morphology and dentition and a thorough knowledge of laboratory procedures. NOTE:
Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:
Successful completion of one and one-half (1 1/2) years of graduate level education at an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree, with major study in subjects related to the work of a Dental Laboratory Technician. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. NOTE:

An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, may be used to meet total experience requirements. The education portion must include courses directly related to the work of the Dental Laboratory Technician position. NOTE:

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
