Maintenance Mechanic - Structural

The duties entail general maintenance support work to accomplish facility level new construction, minor improvements and renovation work, including equipment maintenance, repair, assembly, disassembly and installation, or other duties assigned by the Building Maintenance Foreman/Leader or other FMS Managers. These duties are performed at the Journeyman level. The major duties include but are not limited to:
Performs routine and complex installations of building structures utilizing masonry, woodworking/carpentry and sheet metal working skills; Constructs and makes repairs to existing structures by utilizing building plans, drawings and by following verbal directions; Uses carpentry skills to perform installation and repair of walls, floors and ceilings; Utilizes precise wood working/carpentry skills to construct and make repairs to wood furniture, cabinetry, decorative wood moldings, walls and doors; Installs and maintains towel/soap dispensers, handrails, fans, glove boxes, sharp containers, etc. Assembles, adjusts and repairs grab bars, guardrails, shelves, windows/shades, ceiling grids, locking devices, hinges, door closures, ceramic tiles, floor tiles, interior/exterior trim and other miscellaneous items; Inspects and repairs assigned areas and makes repairs as necessary; Performs all inspections and maintenance to equipment and works with other staff members to coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance and repairs of equipment to manufacturers' standards; Assists in day-to-day operations and coordination of any emergency situations; Assists in maintaining adequate shop stock, tools, materials, on hand to perform daily jobs and maintenance; and Performs other related duties as assigned. In this position you will frequently lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 lbs. and less often to 90 lbs. You will be subject to cuts, bruises, falls and other dangerous conditions. The Journeyman must meet the physical requirements in order to perform proficiently the duties assigned to the position. You must have the ability to work under stressful conditions and ever changing goals and demands. You may be required to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and other hard to reach places. You may be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, walk, reach and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
